Oriental Cuckoos, Anstead Bushland Reserve
January 23, 2011
This morning we saw three Oriental Cuckoos at Anstead Bushland Reserve in the west of Brisbane.
Brett Taylor and I made a quick trip to Anstead Bushland Reserve to look for the recently reported Oriental Cuckoos. The trip was fantastically successful, with great views had of three birds on the path to the lookout. The birds were nearly at the top of the hill, maybe 100m from the lookout over the quarry. They were fairly calm, which is unusual for this species, and allowed us the best views I have ever had. Thanks to Rod Gardner for pointing us in the right direction! Rod also recorded a fourth Oriental Cuckoo in the northwest of the reserve, and a Pale-vented Bush-hen at the bridge in the power line clearing.
